Dragon Age: The Veilguard

So this is my next game! Coming off the heels of Baldur’s Gate 3 it is such a well deserved cold beer after a long trek through the desert! It’s also an example of what it could have been had it kept the D&D junk under the hood. According to Steam I played BG3 for 119.4hrs. I’ve played 15hrs of DATV and I can already say that everything about the game is better than BG3 and it didn’t go through a long and janky early access period. Graphically and mechanically everything is better. BG3 is still a good game and I recommend it, DATV is just magnitudes way fucking better!

I’m currently running at max settings at 2160p>60 (usually >80, usually >100 indoors, DLSS: Balanced, RTX: all off, Reflex: on+boost, hair strands: off). It looks so pretty and, on top of that, has an HDR calibrator that isn’t broken.

Mechanically, it’s DA before it got shitty but with modern amenities. So if you liked it before, you like it now. There’s probably some new mechanics but it’s been centuries since I played a DA game, so I can’t remember.

It is published by EA, but was made by BioWare and there’s none of the toxic monetization EA is known for except chizzleware cosmetics. So just buy the base version, you’re missing nothing. Will post more later!

Talk to me after beating bg3 lol.

It doesn’t make it better, though. You are telling the girl is not so ugly because her friend is uglier.

Both are good games. This one has no chores and, so far, no jank,

I have been playing this on PS5 and the wife and I love it! We have yet to pickup BG3 waiting for a good sale but am looking at Dragons Dogma II as well for the future after we finish our holiday stuff and get our new bed.

Interesting!
Thank you, would like to hear more later!

I played BG3, absolutely loved it, but never have finished it because exactly what you seem to be saying, I just got bogged down in the third act and moved on to other simpler games.

I played the original Dragon Ages, and remember liking them. I did not like the last one that came out, though, but I can’t remember the exact reason.

I’m always more concerned about the story, and immersion, and the fun it gives in the longer, one time play through.

tell us mooore!

I loved Origins and I thought Inquisition was fine, so if you say this is good I’ll play it someday.

Just beat it! A fucking excellent game. My original assertion stands. Waaaay better than BG3. My total play time of BG3 was only a couple hours longer than my DAV time and yet it felt like centuries. There’s no content dlc…which I guess makes the abbreviation no longer make sense. If there were content DLC I’d be playing it right now. Don’t buy their chizzleware, just encourages bad behavior. It’s amazing EA behaved as well as it did. Chizzleware DLC was their only toxic behavior in this title. Recommended!

The following isn’t a spoiler, just a tip that I just happened to guess right on. Near the end after the point of no return, there’s chances one or more of your characters will die permanently as part of the story. Whenever you’re asked to chose companions to help with some other part of the battle that you’re not a part of, only chose the ones you care the least about. This way, death or no death, you always have your preferred two companions fighting with you until the end.

I tried it and found it boring and repetitive. Not even close to BG3 or DA:Origins.

If this game is repetitive, bg3 is pure monotony.

De gustibus non est disputandum.

De mechanicis pure loquor.

Game mechanics can’t fix mediocre story and bland and bad written characters. IMO

Ok, bg3 has a bit better story. DAV has better mechanics. If DAV had bg3 mechanics and bg3 had dav story, they’d both be shit. Regardless, bg3 still feels like chores in contrast.

To each their own. You like it, I don’t.

I haven’t played either, but I disagree that story is more important than gameplay. Games are games not movies, so if they aren’t fun to play in some way, I can’t play them. Unless they’re pretty short then it’s basically a movie I guess

I’ve been enjoying it. I don’t think it is an amazing game, but the combos are fun. They did a really good job with how the world works. Each party member has an ability to interact with the world. I was SUPER worried I’d have to go back with each companion to explore, but you basically just unlock the ability if they aren’t around and you can use the ability. It is a nice quality of life change.
