ummm huh?!?!

For the heck of it I installed Assassin’s Creed: Unity. Yes, I’ve heard about all the bugs and issues but being that I’ve beaten every other main AC game and most DLC’s, I needed to try it for myself. OMG… it’s awesome! Seriously, they revamped it a ton from Black Flag to Unity. I beat Syndicate which came after Unity, but I can say already that I like Unity more. I haven’t liked the main character too much since Ezio, but Arno is a smooth French version of him. Thankfully they’ve patched the heck out of the game since release so I’m playing with silky smooth beautiful visuals. The only two issues I have with the game so far are 1. Everyone has British accents (really Ubi!!!) and 2. A tad bit of pop in, but nothing that ruins the game. I’ll update as I play more but I am shocked.

I found that, after playing black flag and rogue, that Unity and Syndicate were epicly boring. The lack of a boat is what done it. In AC3 Ubisoft got substantial feedback on how fun that boat section was in contrast to the rest of the game. So then Black Flag was born. Rogue was released on PC, PS3, and XB360 at the same time Unity was released on PC, PS4, and xbone. One last milking of last gen. However, Rogue was waaaay better because boat.

I would have returned Unity due to how fucking buggy it was, but steam didn’t yet have the ability to return games. I’ll also remind you it was the birth of what is known today as “Ubisoft Cinematic”. So I just waited for it to be patched into playability. At that point I found it incredibly boring, albeit, now running properly. So I just didn’t play it. When syndicate came out, I returned it for being just as boring.

I might just give Unity one more try in the near future as it is in my inventory and I have a newer rig and monitor since last play. So 1440p could be a thing.

I am glad they’ve discontinued the yearly release junk though. The next AC game might actually be good.

gord0 huh interesting. Guess they’re not for everyone. I loved Black Flag, the pirate stuff, ship, etc. But I also enjoy traditional AC. Syndicate was smart bc they introduced grappling hook and ways to get around quicker. So far, I like Unity a lot bc Arno is very likable and this story is playing out like a movie. Reminds me of The Count of Monte Cristo

It’s primarily the amount of fun having the boat was, for two games in a row, then it’s just gone. The boat games had all the same mechanics as Unity and Syndicate, but that was in addition and in harmony to the boat stuff. Unity and Syndicate felt like getting socks for christmas when you were expecting something you actually asked santa for.

gord0 but these socks are nice colors, soft, and keep my feet warm!

I just tried again because I said I would earlier in this thread. Same conclusion.

gord0 Yeah, different people like different AC games. That said, I am starting to see a couple of the glitch issues come out with AI and other random stuff

I got bored after the ezio trilogy. I barely slogged through part 3 and couldn’t get into black flag. I think the base formula just got stale for me.

ShiftySatchmo I’m still surprised about you and Black Flag. It has plenty outside of the standard formula. So soooo good

Agreed. The entire key mechanic was that people loved that small boat section in AC3 so they made AC4 mostly about the boat. Which was incredibly fun, and why I loved Rogue so much too. I found Unity and Syndicate didn’t introduce anything with a higher fun bar, so they felt boring. Just like how Saints Row 4 shot the bar way up there and everyone loved it, and Gat Out of Hell felt meh because it had nowhere really to go above and beyond the previous title. Removing the boat stuff from AC was like getting off a bad ass roller coaster at an amusement park and then only being able to go on kiddy-land rides afterwards.

In fact, since I forced myself to revisit Unity just to be sure, I think ShiftySatchmo should revisit Black Flag! XD

After Black Flag I honestly can’t wait to finish DOOM and start AC: Rogue. AC4: BF is pretty damn amazing.

Unity isn’t bad at all since patching and you can get an Xbox one key for 2 bucks off g2a. Even more worth it if interested. I recommend it for sure.

It’s not the performance… well it is, but I can get 60fps now but you can still tell there’s a lot of jank. It was playable less than a year from it’s release. The problem is it’s boring after playing black flag and rogue. As far as the xbox goes, you’re stuck at 24fps…or 30… think it’s 24… whatever “Ubisoft Cinematic” is.

gord0 The boat, the deep sea diving, the whale/shark hunting, way better exploration, the dart gun, the hunting (came from 3 but not nearly as good), and so on and so on. I keep it installed with the hope to finish everything in it someday.
