I still wish this game was approached as a new/alternate story from the point of view of a different scientist. Something more like Blue Shift or Opposing Forces in style. I would’ve appreciated it more that way. It just didn’t feel like HL1 to me. They changed too much, and often just for the sake of changing things. But then again, I’m a HL1 fanboy and find it still playable and fun. I can understand why others wouldn’t. But as a remake, I would never prioritize it over the original to a new player. It doesn’t fit right.

Still a good love letter to HL though. And worth playing through if you like the universe.

I think this game is an amazing achievement. You know I live Half-Life. But they managed to modernize it so well, i am amazed. I follow this mod for 10 years almost and Xen surpassed every expectation. I loved the original, I love this one, i cant make a choice which is better, I think mood and nostalgia will decice what i will install, and I cant be angry for those who start to play this univeerse with Black Mesa, it is no less or more than the original. The best remake I ever played.

I’m not knocking their passion or the product itself. I just (personally) didn’t get the vision of it. Didn’t hit the right notes for me as a remake. I had fun though. I mean, it’s a close to Half Life as you can get without being Valve! And I plan to play it again sometime down the road. But yeah. Whatever. I’m just some dude. It’s still a thumbs up and recommendation from me.

I watched it (edit: the first 35mins so far I should say). Still doesn’t change that it didn’t work for me. Like somebody that doesn’t like how a movie based on a book did something, I don’t ‘get’ or personally like their remake choices. Doesn’t take away any of their work or passion. And I’m very much in the minority. But it just didn’t work for me as a remake.

Edit: I guess I might be using bad wording with “get”. Simply put “it didn’t do it for me” (as a remake, still a fun HL inspired game to play).
