If you do you’re directly supporting the ccp. In doing so you will be supporting forced organ harvesting, forced abortion, detaining Uighur Muslims in internment camps, pumping fentanyl into the US and the rest of the western world, the oppression of Tibet, the destruction of Hong Kong’s democracy, cheating in the Olympics, ripping up the sea floor indiscriminately around the world while changing/turning off transponders to evade detection, debt trap diplomacy, oppression of all religions, the number one cause of global warming, intellectual property theft, oppression of Falun Gong/Dafa practitioners, skirting sanctions and supplying Russia, Iran, Hamas, and any other shit government/terrorist group with military supplies, and whatever other daily atrocities that have slipped my mind.
Pirate it if you must. Surly the CCP would endorse that idea, it’s one of their favorite pass times.
If we touched on this subject, I would like to add Atomic Heart, too. The developers are funded by the russian government, so your money go to them.
But honestly, if you start digging, you can see that the Chinese have their tentacles deep in our asses. For example, Tencent buys different companies, including video game studios. They even own an 11% stake of Ubisoft, 5% in Activision. You can read more here Tencent - a Company That Secretly Owns the Gaming Industry
The reason this game is so much worse is that the ccp actually pushed this game really hard in china. Many companies were ordered to give their employees the day off on launch day, give out free copies to employees (they screen shot their receipt and send it to hr and get reimbursed on their paycheck). A whole bunch of brand deals, some coffee company sold out of Wukong branded beans. If you look at the steam activity charts, when China is awake, the game has the most concurrent players ever, when China is asleep it drops down to like 200k ish. What this game represents is that China is trying to fuck up the industry with censorship/propaganda the same way they’ve done in Hollywood that people are only now speaking out about.
With companies like Activision and Ubisoft, I’ve been buying shady ebay keys so they get $0. Don’t remember the last of their titles that I bought legitimately. And that was because of all their anti-consumer practices. CCP involvement is just another turd on the shit sundae. I never have and never will buy from the epic store, and I don’t think I’ve played games by the other companies in that graphic.
If I went with the mindset not to buy a game because it’s made in a country that is run “differently”, then I shouldn’t buy anything US/Canada forks out ever, because they bombed my country back in the 90s and killed a good chunk of my family while doing that.
If I end up buying Black Myth Wukong, its gonna be specifically because i like Wukong as a character and I really enjoyed the Journey to the West series. If the money goes to CCP directly, then so be it. Not sure what they’re gonna do with the 40 bucks they got from me. Make 1/3 of a bullet for their invasions?
I mean…try not to buy anything that was made in China and see what you have left. I get your point, but don’t buy a phone, clothes, computer components, etc. it’s a rough gig trying to be activist with your purchasing (or lack thereof).
China is the last resort. There’s browser extensions to tell you where things are actually made. They often ship items outside of china and sell it from there to make it look like items aren’t from china. But yeah, anything tech is a definite no no. Not only to stop money flowing into china, but to protect yourself and those around you… 95% of successful Chinese products come with built in malware. Ticktock and Temu being the most popular on the software side of things.
