HP Notebook 7 (Windows 8.1)

Friend of mine has a HP Notebook 7 with Windows 8.1. 8gb DDR3L and A10 cpu, shes having issues with loading up and ending up with a black screen constantly, we have tried getting her into the advanced options so she could factory reset but the laptop decided it didn’t want to comply. No Backup Disc, or Flash Drive. Any suggestions? Im thinking the HD maybe borked or Windows it self.

If I recall, windows 8 and up ties your license to your login email. Format and use the same login as before (provided they used an email instead of a username). If microsoft is still doing it, upgrade to 10 for free.

If the above isn’t possible (license not tied to email) and they’re not a gamer, install ubuntu.

Free Win10 upgrade expired last summer if I know correctly.

ButtStallion you can still do the upgrade. I’ve used a win 7 pro key a few weeks ago and Only0neKnight used a win 7 pro key i gave him with the build to activate win 10.

We got it fixed and she will be reinstalling Windows 10 shortly her last try didnt work out to well last year she had managed to log into Windows 10 but her laptop went bonkers at the time. Im walking her through the process now.
