I’m not much of a story driven game player but I still believe it’s pure unnecessary bs when it comes to either sex or romance in any game. In general, the caricature interpretation of such things is unimpressive and mostly laughable. There are other mediums better suited for this, not games. So nahhhh
So what if my joke answer was the real answer. I didn’t want you guys to judge and here you are judging.
I read that Katsuo post about FFX and instantly thought “oh man I’m 100% posting a link the Tidus and Yuna laughing”. Keep reading the posts then thought “Son of a bitch”.

Yes, that article is stupid. I’ve only played one of those games, not even heard of half of them.
But reading this thread… I’m kind of surprised that I’m the only person that does not seem to think sex/romance scenes in video games is awkward?
I mean, it does depend on the game- Mario? Dirt Rally? PUBG? Yes, sex in those games would be really dumb and unnecessary.
But Witcher 3, other story driven games? I would expect it to be in games like that, at least as a choice. Games like Leisure Suit Larry, and House Party, it would almost be a requirement, thats what the game is about! I mod Skyrim and Fallout to include it, LOL.
But honestly you see it in movies and TV all over the place now, so why would it be any less awkward in video games?
Those scenes don’t bother me provided it’s not part of a long ass cut scene. Long cut scenes annoy me regardless of the content.

The last “lovely Asian girl-next-door” I had a romantic in-game experience with hung herself…
But generally I find I need characters & story before I can cope with romance & sex. The bad writing, that comes with gaming, only makes it worse for me.

I feel the same as I do about it in movies, if it is in some how used to help tell the story in a way that otherwise would not be then I have no problem with it, but if it is just there to be there (Like in most 80’s movies which I confess as a hormonal teenager I loved) but now that I am older it does not seem necessary in most cases though I must admit I am in lust with Triss Merigold

I can’t even think of an example of a game I’ve played with anything but an implied hookup. But I don’t play anime or jRPG stuff much at all. I don’t even remember that Heavy Rain situation described. GTA3 BJ? That’s about all I can think of. Guess they don’t really leave an impact, which means they’re a little pointless. I dunno, as long as its a cutscene, not gratuitous just for the sake of being gratuitous, and story relevant I’d be fine with it. I got nothing against dongs and vajayjays hanging out together. Interactivity would just be kinda odd though.
