Just played it for a couple of hours.
I expected this to be like the Shin Megami Tensei mobile crap they released a couple of years ago, which eventually failed. But to my surprise, P5 phantom x is actually a full game. Basically new cast, new story, new cutscenes, new music, everything seems to be absolutely top notch. Had a lot of fun playing it.
But, its still a gacha game. You do spend money to get the pulls but you can earn them by just playing it.
Ill continue playing this game until i hit a paywall, to see how much it is gonna cost me to continue. They will get my 40 bucks if the rest of the game is good. Thats how much i paid for persona 5 royal so yeah..
Quit yet? Apparently it is in fact designed to extract as much money as possible. People are review bombing it because the chinese servers have lower difficulty and more rewards because most of china is 3rd world and so they’re far more reluctant to pay. So they made it easier to play for them in hopes of more addictions. Whereas the western world has harder difficulty and less rewards because they know our addicts will pay at the drop of a hat.
As well people are saying it gets boring quick and the content feels half-assed…which shouldn’t be a surprise, it’s freemium slop.
I tried it for a bit today because poor and waiting for torrents. Seemed okish, but I definitely felt the half-assedness. I didn’t get far before the servers went down for maintenance. Because of course they did so soon after I started playing. So I went on the steam forums to see what people were saying and well, I’m out. Fuck this slop.
I’ve played about 60ish hours of it. Finished the second palace. While I still think the game is enjoyable and well made, the second palace is what made me stop playing it. They made the second palace really grindy. Like, not even established looter shooters like Warframe are that grindy. And from what I’ve heard, they do not plan to fix that issue and they might even double down on it. Which is a shame, the story and the gameplay are pretty decent so far.
Now in regards of rewards, the gacha mechanics and all that China > Global banter. I just dont give a fuck about it. The game is easy as is. I still haven’t paid anything yet because I don’t see a reason to pay for any pulls..unless you like to collect the characters and need to absolutely own all of them, then that’s a different story and I understand why people would give a negative review.
I will continue playing the game IF they decide to make the next palace not to be 30 hours long. Until then, I will continue playing better gacha games like Wuthering Waves, where the game respects your time and actually releases good content that isn’t railloaded for absolutely no reason.
