Remnant 2 is a Remnant: From the Ashes, but on steroids. 
Three campaigns, three different archetypes and three absolutely different experiences.
Beautiful worlds, solid story and lore, good game mechanics and different rpg elements.
As in first game the coop experience is fantastic.
What’s there not to like? Ahhh jump.

Do you have to play the first one or is it fine to just jump in?
i dont think so. its not gonna matter that much. i have been playing the first one lately with a friend for a while now. its amazing u should play the first one. its a new thing in soulborne genre. and quite a good one. and the second one is really really good too from what i saw in the reviews and gameplay’s so far. so if you start 2 you not gonna like the first one cause 2 is better. so i would suggest you go for the first one first.
You don’t have to play first one, but @DANTE already recommended you to play first one before sequel, and he’s absolutely right.
