RX 460 - Unlocked or RX 470/480/GTX 1060/1070

So depending on funds here with in the next week, once I gather what I have coming and depending on sales… I will be looking into buying my graphics card finally to replace the R9 270X. However I have still been unable to fully decide which one to get.

With the Recent info about the RX 460 (certain brands) now being able to be bioflashed to unlock the rest of the cores, I have started wondering if its worth it over a 470… on the other hand I should if I can manage to keep my self from spending it before hand, have around $400… minus what I need for new fans and if I can a NZXT Sentry 2 Controller…

I am stuck, undecided between the RX Series and GTX Series a issue I have had for awhile. The GTX 760 I had at one point kind of caused that issue, cause it was so good.

Part of me wants to get a 470 or 480 8gb… but another part of me says buy a 460/470 4gb or a GTX 1050 Ti in order to save on cost and get more upgrades… such as a new cooling system, power supply, blueray dvdrw drive or a bigger better case. lol

To Many choices!

I have a MSI 1070 and I wish everybody can have one of this, simply amaaaaazing. I can’t say much about the rest, 400 dollar, I would say a 480 or a 1060 is an excellent choice. 480 if you want modern games with DX12. I still hope team green can solve this huge gap when comes to dx12.

I have a RX 480 in my PC right now while I wait for my Fury X replacement. It is a great little card. Runs lots of games at 1440p with little issue. Totally worth the extra cost.

Gorkie Be careful with BIOS flashing - if you’re not experienced in doing it I’d make sure you purchase a 460 with a dual BIOS switch so there will always be one working safe BIOS if anything goes wrong. I haven’t looked into this exact unlock but generally an unlocked lower tier card is still not as good as the higher tier one.

My feeling is that you want to use this PC for gaming predominantly & so you should be putting your money it where that benefits you the most. I would go for the best GPU you can afford that your current PSU can handle. All the other upgrades can be incremental, but unlikely to provide any real boost to your gaming experience.

Just my thoughts.

Sgt_T8ie Right now im looking at a Refurbed GTX 1070 on newegg and hoping its still for sale come payday! $329 and its a MSI Armor Edition! I have a Corsair 600w 80+ Bronze PSU. But should it not be on sale ill be keeping my eyes on the RX 470/480/1060/1070 the bio’s part of the 460 does make me a little edgy.

That 1070’s a great deal. That looks to be the best offer for you & you’ll be fine with a 600W PSU. Best of luck. Just relax & don’t overthink it too much. I’d set priorities & aim for them in order, instead of bouncing around.
