Ryzen?

Anyone got it yet and upgraded? Im waiting to hear everyone heres thoughts on it and such before the time comes for me to order. I /might/ wait for Q2 before ordering depending on things, cause I want more info and to give them time to work out any issues with 1080p I keep hearing about.

Wait for more drivers, and more games to be developed with it in mind.

Everything I have heard is compared to mid range Intel chips, I don’t know how it compares to newer or more powerful chips like 6-10 core old style chips or Skylake upper end chips. Anybody know of a comparison to upper end Intel stuff?

Linus tech tips did one, and they came to the conclusion I posted above in this thread. Wait. None of the current games were developed for ryzen because it didn’t exist. So you won’t get ideal performance.

Thing is, im using my current parts after the upgrade to build a 2nd computer which I will be giving to my cousin. So I want to try and get it done asap, so question here then is should I make him wait till Ryzen matures into Q2 and such or should I say fck it and go Intel. My cousin is currently running a Single Core laptop for gaming and its about 10+ years old and a toshiba… I paid 600+ about 10+ years ago for it with 4gb of ddr3. Im planning to use my FX 8320 + MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard and a ASUS GT 640 2gb I have laying around (Maybe a R9 270X if it doesnt sell before hand) to hook him up.

Check the prices, I heard Intel did a slash in response to ryzen. If you can get an equivalent intel chip for the same or better price than your target ryzen, do it. Otherwise may as well go ryzen.

gord0 Well I was talking about waiting to Q2 and seeing how the R5 was doing, so I guess a I7 could be in the works will have a look around and decide from that then.

Also factor in a mobo. If you’re not getting a new one, your current socket type will dictate amd or intel.

gord0 Well, I will be getting a new mobo/ram/cpu for this its why I have to make such a decision. As I am giving my MSI 970 Gaming Mobo, Ram & FX 8320 as well as Seidon 120v to my cousin in his pc when I get done.

I believe Intel will not drop the 1151 series much more, after all the 1700 & up are supposed to be comparing against the higher Intel chipsets; currently where I am I’m seeing the 7700K priced between the 1700 & 1700X. If the lower end Ryzens release and put pressure on those Intel chips it’ll benefit you (Gorkie ) for a gaming build, playing the waiting game may pay dividends.
