ShiftySatchmo January 2017 Gamer Challenge

Maybe I’ll beat two games this month!

Beat The Last Guardian on “too many feels” mode (that’s the only mode).

I loved it, as I knew I would. Great sound, graphics, story, and puzzles. Yes, it has flaws. The camera can suck and so can the fps, and once in a while I had an issue with the controls. Anyhoo, the game is paced very well and it builds to some intense moments in the second half. You really end up caring about your fake animal companion and the bond the story creates. This game is very original and feels completely different compared to what else is out there.

10/10 for myself because it is now one of my favorite games of all time. Probably true for fans of ICO as well because it has a strong ICO feel to it.

8/10 is what I would say realistically when recommending it to others because of the technical issues.

Finished SOMA, finally! Katsuo

I really enjoyed this game. The best hide from stuff and cry game I’ve played. Better than Outlast, even.

Great sound, and especially amazing story. It was kind of like watching a very long episode of black mirror. One of the best plots in a game I’ve ever experienced.

It was a fun game with good puzzles. A lot of disturbing and tense moments. A lot of philosophical moments that made you reflect. My only beef really was that there wasn’t enough “game”. I mean there was hiding and puzzles, but no mechanics like hiding under a bed or whatnot that you tend to see in these games.

Anyway, I loved it! 8/10 easily

ShiftySatchmo It took you almost one year to beat a 9 hours game. I don’t even want to know how much will it take you to finish FF7 which is around 70 hours long. Good job, anyway! Glad you enjoyed it!

Katsuo haha I didn’t start playing it a year ago that’s just when you gave it to meeeeeee

ShiftySatchmo That’s even worse…

Finished Fire Emblem: Awakening on Normal + Permadeath.

Boy oh boy, do I love me some Fire Emblem. This game was great. Permadeath is the way to go because it makes strategic sacrifices matter way more (since the characters you sacrifice don’t come back). It also makes it a lot harder because you can’t be stupid.

Anyway, great gameplay, as always. Much better graphics and sound than usual thanks to 3DS I guess. The plot was pretty typical; some bad guy wants to destroy everything and you band together to stop him. It had some cool anime cutscenes, which is always nice.

I’d say 8/10. It was great!

PS: Three games in one month!!!

Katsuo haha I’ll never win. I have too much stuff to do :’( I just got lucky this month I guess and beat a few games.

ShiftySatchmo You’ll win the February one. I have literally no games to finish hahah. I’m just achievement hunting now.

I am actually thinking of passing this month when it comes to the Challenge so I start doing it properly on February. The game I play right now, Viking, doesn’t have that long left, I am on the last isle.

ShiftySatchmo I should really finish this game. I gotta be near the end by now. I totally agree Permadeath is the best way to go. Makes you so much more emotionally invested in the characters. Nothing worst then trying to get Sully married just to have her die. It was truly heartbreaking.
