FANTASIAN Neo Dimension

So this is my next game! I started playing it yesterday. It was originally released 5-6 years ago (can’t remember exactly) on apple arcade in 3 episodes. So you had to play on shit tier hardware if you wanted to play at all.

I played it on a 2019 ipad mini with an xbox controller. It was the biggest apple screen I had as my imac pro had died prior to that. At the time only 2 of the 3 episodes had launched and the game was poorly balanced. As if gotcha cunts balanced it despite there being no gotcha mechanics, nor any other predatory mobile monetization garbage.

Now they’ve released all three episodes in one, added English and Japanese voice overs, re-balanced it, and it’s on all the real platforms now. They claim they’ve added shit specifically for 4k users… by that they mean they added a resolution dropdown to the options menu so you can pick your resolution. I see no other visual improvements. The backgrounds all look blurry because they’ve not changed the resolution of the textures. Which is fine, I find it better brings out the ps1/ps2 era final fantasy game vibes. The character models seem to be about wii/wii-u in quality(except with antialiasing). Mostly due to porting from a 5+ year old mobile game and not bothering to update the models/animations. Some cut scenes are video clip cut scenes that they seem to have also not updated, so they’re pixelated/blurry. The only graphics options are resolution, locked framerate (30, 60, or 120), and anti-aliasing (on or off). So given all the environments are all just still frames and therefor there’s barely any 3d rendering happening at any given time, I’m rocking a solid 4320p120 with AA on.

All that said, it’s a really fun game. I had nearly forgotten everything from my original play through so it’s nearly a new game for me.

Oh also, they added some final fantasy tracks that you can optionally enable. Whoop dee doodle do. If they make I sequel, I hope they release it on real platforms first and mobile as an after thought (if at all) this time around.

Will post more later!

oo, this looks like a fun game actually. I may add it to my list.

So I beat this last night. It’s definitely an old FF title without FF in the name. This game does have tons of bosses though and many of them require you to change up your gear so you don’t get annihilated (resistances, immunities, strengths, bonus abilities, etc). So don’t skimp out on side quests. You never know what gear you’ll need next. If you like old FF games, you like this game. Recommended.
