Bioshock Infinite - quite simply no other game has blown me away this much, with the storyline. ever. Skyrim - this could actually be whatever version of The Elder Scrolls is out now. I’ve played them all, and will never stop playing whatever the current version of it is. The Secret World - An MMO, but again, storyline. The story in this game was right up my alley, the stuff I love Command HQ - Here is an older game, from way back, when gaming started. This was a game sort of like risk, put with a lot more twists and strategy. Me and a friend used to play it for hours and hours on our first 286 processor machines, linked by a 25 pin serial cable on his kitchen table. Tons of hours of enjoyment from this game. It is unfortunate that it will not run on today’s machines, because the copies add too much, and actually take away from the fun. Conan Exiles is climbing into the list- I know this is just barely out, not even out of early access. But I already have well over 200 hours in it. This is THE fantasy based MMO style roleplayer’s game, if it continues down the current path.
honorable mentions-
Everquest - This game got me hooked into CRPGing. played it way more than any other MMO.
Kings Quest - An older game, from the beginning of gaming, that I loved, and helped shaped my love of single player fantasy adventer/rpgs
Xcom and Civilization games - because I also love turn based strategy, like these.
I’m going to do an edit, and like schlitty put the reasons why, I consider these the best of all time. Platform does not matter to me, simply because I only play on PC.
Tetris (NES) - Forever and ever and ever.
Half-Life 1 (PC) - Biggest PC impact of my life.
Mario Kart Doubledash (GameCube) - Sibling rivalry.
Sonic CD (SEGACD/PC) - 2D perfection.
Super Mario Bros. (NES) - First game I beat on NES and NES was the bulk of my childhood.
That’s the easiest way I can do just 5 across all platforms and all time! There’s games I’ve played more than Tetris. Seeing StarCraft at a friend’s house is the real reason I got into Windows PC gaming, but HL1 means more to me. There’s 100’s of other games that I’ve played vs my brother. There’s tons of other niche ‘special to me’ games like Sonic CD out there I love. There’s other NES games like say Mega Man 2 or something that I like more than Mario. Etc etc etc. But whenever the question is to list “all time” I just put more of an emphasis on their impact. And their so-called ‘place in history’ of my personal gaming as well as with a touch of gaming as a whole (Tetris, HL1, SMB).
schlitty I completely understand the Half-Life pc gaming importance moment of your life lol. I PC gamed before it but, I began to understand pc gaming capabilities because of it…
gord0 I am the exact same as what you mentioned, 2-32 etc. Soooo hard to list out which is why I randomly threw some out there. Maybe section it off to… some favorite NES games etc.
It’s interesting to me to see how many of you guys choose mostly modern games. It’s a compliment to where the industry is. There was a time when it felt like there was nothing to play in the mid 2000’s. A lot has changed in 10+ years. Now there’s too much!
Crysis series
Call of Duty 1 and 2, World at War as well… don’t like this new modern stuff
Half life
Killing floor
Medal of Honor series
Quake
Brother in Arms
Wolfenstein
Red Alert
Ghost Recon 1
Conflict Desert Storm
Age of empires

It’s probably because most of us played the modern games just recently. If I played Chrono Trigger or Crisis Core: FF7, like, yesterday, I would’ve switched them with Metal Gear games. I forgot how good the games are lol

Hey, I put a game that was pre2000s! I’m old! lol. I can remember playing so many good games, right when they came out, and I will ask people what they thought of them, and they look at me, and say, they weren’t even born yet.
I also went back and edited mine, taking a page from schlitty and put the WHY part, of why I considered them top 5.
